The founders of Unity Preparatory Charter School of Brooklyn are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity to become a mentor during the 2016-17 school year.
Unity Prep is committed to offering a nurturing and comprehensive educational experience that will not only enhance our students’ and families’ lives, but also impact the community. While we plan to model the principles and characteristics of thoughtful and active citizenship in our interactions with our students, we believe that surrounding our young people with positive and trusted role models will only heighten this work.
In order to fulfill this vision, we have developed a Mentoring Program. Unity Prep’s Mentoring Program pairs selected students with positive adults from the community who are committed to maintaining regular contact with their mentees and acting as role models and advocates. The Mentoring Program aims to broaden students’ horizons and provide them with the opportunity to form long-term relationships with successful adults who can help them appreciate the direct link between scholastic success and professional success.
Whether you have mentored before or are new to mentoring, we promise that this will be a gratifying experience for you. Knowing full well how busy people’s schedules can be, we are asking you to commit the minimum time that we believe is necessary to build a positive relationship with your mentee. At the link below, we have outlined our expectations for our mentors, mentees, and the Unity Prep mentorship program committee.
If you are interested in mentoring a Unity Prep student, please follow the link below to “Apply to be a Mentor.” This application should take 5-10 minutes to complete and your responses will help us to pair you with one of our amazing students.
We hope that you are able to take part in our new program and we look forward to working with you to make this program a valuable and positive experience for both you and your mentee. If you have any questions, please send them by email.
