The Unity Scoop – August 1

Dear Families of Unity,

On behalf of our entire faculty and staff, I hope the first half of summer has brought rest, joy, and meaningful time with loved ones.

July is a sacred time to recharge, reflect on the past school year, and plan intentionally for the year ahead. For our educators, it’s a moment to reset—and also to serve students through small-group instruction in Summer Academy.

Our school leaders recently returned from a well-earned break and are now planning for the year ahead. As we approach our 13th year as a school, we’re eager to build on past successes and make 2025–26 our strongest year yet.

In this edition of The Unity Scoop, you’ll find a number of updates and resources from Unity and beyond—including highlights from our heartfelt graduation ceremonies in June.

The next edition will be shared during the week of August 18th.

Updates as of August 1, 2025:

1. New – Unity Students Connect and Have Fun Through Summer Enrichment and Bridge Programs!  Over the past month, many of our new and returning middle school students participated in our summer enrichment offerings, including academic classes and extracurricular programming in art, basketball, step, and track. In addition, our rising 9th graders recently took part in our new Summer Bridge program – a three-day experience designed to support a smooth and joyful transition to high school.  Enjoy the photos below from both programs!

2. Recap – 2025-26 School Year Calendar of Key Events and Vacations for Families: Calendars for the 2025-26 school year are available below.  Note that we have two versions this year – one version for our middle school (grades 6-8) and another version for our high school (grades 9-12).

3. Recap – Report Cards for all Unity Students for the Spring Term and Year:

  • Grades 6-8: Middle School report cards were distributed during Roundtables.  Report cards that were not picked up were mailed out by July 1st, in addition to students’ summer assignment packets, and any awards students may have received.
  • Grades 9-12: High School report card links were sent out via email to families on June 30th.

 

4. Updated – Summer Assignment Information: Here are the descriptions for summer assignments for students by grade level:

  • Grades 6-8: Summer assignments for all rising 7th-8th grade middle school students were distributed during Roundtable presentations. Digital copies were also sent via email to all incoming 6th graders.  If you are a new family in need of assignments for this summer, please reach out to Mr. Beckford.
  • Grades 9-12: Students who are mandated to retake Regents examinations will receive summer prep work directions in early August.

 

5. New – AP scores from the 2024-25 school year are now available!: Students who completed their AP exams in May can sign into their College Board accounts and use this website to obtain their scores.  In addition, students can also see notes on the scoring here.  Course selections for the 2025-26 school year, including AP courses, will be finalized in late August.  Congratulations to all of our students who earned college credit based on their scores!  More generally, congratulations to all of our students who experienced an AP course this year!

 

6. New – August Hours of Operation: Here is information on our hours of operation by site through August.  The main office of both sites will be open based on the following schedules:

  • Grades 6-8: 432 Monroe Street (718-455-5046)
    • August 1st – August 8th
      • The building is closed due to facility renovations.  Contact help.ms@unityprep.org for all correspondence.
    • August 11th – August 31st
      • 9:00am – 4:00pm, M-F
  • Grades 9-12: 584 Driggs Avenue (718-682-3725)
    • August 1st – August 8th

    • August 11th – August 31st

7. New – Guidance on School Supplies: Guidance on school supplies are below:

 

8. New – Information and Guidance on Unity’s Dress Codes for the 2025-26 School Year: Unity’s dress codes by grade level are provided below.

 

9. Recap – Free Summer Meals Start June 27th: NYC’s Summer Meals program, which offers free breakfast and lunch throughout NYC for anyone age 18 and under, will run from June 27th to August 29th. No registration, documentation, or ID is required. Learn more and find a location near you by clicking here.

10. Recap – Free Admission to NYC’s Finest Museums through Unity Middle’s Partnership with Urban Advantage: Unity Middle School (MS) students were given vouchers to visit some of the best museums in NYC free of charge.  See the details below and contact Ms. Diaz, our MS Science Department Chairperson, with any questions.

11. Recap – Preparing For Unity High School: We’re thrilled to welcome our rising 9th grade students and families to Unity High for the 2025–26 school year!  To help you prepare for this exciting next chapter, please be sure to review the important documents linked below. They include everything you need to know to start strong at Unity High!

 

12. Updated – New Students for Fall 2025 – Unity Prep has a few seats available for rising 6th and 9th graders for the 2025-26 school year. Finding the right school can be tough, and our current families (you!) are the best advocates. If you know of any interested families, please reach out to Mr. Beckford via email or cell (862-294-0219). For any families that refer a new family, both will be given a $100 Amazon gift card for school supplies.

 

13. Recap – Unity Celebrates our Graduates of the Class of 2025!:  We are so proud of our graduates and excited about their college and career pursuits.  A special congrats to the graduates featured below for their academic achievements.  Again, we are proud of you!

 

14. Recap – Unity Celebrates our 8th Grade Graduates!: Congratulations to the families of our newest 8th grade graduates!  Wednesday’s ceremony was a warm and festive event, and I am so excited for our graduates as they continue their academic pursuits in high school.

15. Recap – Unity’s 12th Graders Take in Orlando Together!: For their Senior Trip, Unity’s 12th graders traveled to Florida last week to celebrate their accomplishments and have some fun together before graduating.  We hope that you had an amazing time, Seniors!  We look forward to celebrating your graduation this coming week!

16. Recap – Unity Celebrates the 5-Year Anniversary for 11 Educators and 10-Year Anniversary for 6 Educators!: This month, we honor six Unity staff members who are celebrating their fifth year at Unity, along with one staff member who is celebrating their tenth year with us.

As a young school, these teammates have made tremendous contributions to our programming, our curriculum, and – most importantly – the learning experiences of our students. They are true pillars of our community, and we thank them wholeheartedly for all that they have brought – and continue to bring – to our school.

17. Recap – Unity Students Show Off Their New Skills During Roundtables: Congrats to all of our middle school students who completed their Roundtable Presentations this week! Be proud of this milestone achievement.  We were truly impressed by the skills, effort, and growth our students displayed.  Family members – we hope you enjoyed the experience. Congratulations to you, too!

18. Recap – Congratulations to Unity High’s College Now Students!: We are proud of our College Now students, who completed college-level courses at City Tech this past semester. These impressive students seized the opportunity to experience college life on a college campus while earning credits toward their future academic goals—all while still in high school.  We commend these students for challenging themselves and stepping outside their comfort zones. We look forward to celebrating even more Unity students as they join the College Now program in the future!

19. Recap – Unity Middle’s End-of-Year Ceremony Honors our Students’ Spring Semester Achievements in 2024-25!: An abundance of students were celebrated for their achievements during Thursday’s Awards Ceremony.  Congratulations to all recipients, including our Caregiver Award recipient!

20. Recap – College Acceptance List for Unity’s Class of 2025!: We are excited to share with our community the full list of colleges to which Unity’s Class of 2025 have earned admission.  Congrats to the entire class and their families as they now decide which college they will attend this fall!
