December-19-2025

The Unity Scoop – December 19

Dear Families of Unity,

The festive spirit continued this week with our annual Love Your Neighbor Day of Service and Holiday Hoopla—two joyful reminders of the values that bring our community together. As we head into December break and reflect on the first four months of the school year, there is truly much to celebrate.

On behalf of our entire faculty and staff, thank you for your continued partnership at home and at school. Your support plays a vital role in our students’ growth and success, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration in the New Year.

Wishing you and your loved ones a wonderful holiday season. We look forward to welcoming students back on Monday, January 5th.

Warmest wishes,
Josh

Updates as of December 19, 2025:

1. New – Unity Engages in our Annual Love Your Neighbor Community Service Day!

In the true spirit of giving, our Unity community came together for a powerful morning of service and civic engagement. Students and staff volunteered their time and talents across more than a dozen service projects, partnering with local nonprofit organizations including: The Campaign Against Hunger, Bedford Stuyvesant Early Childhood Center, CHiPS Soup Kitchen & Women’s Shelter, and RiseBoro Community Partnership.

This meaningful day reflected Unity’s commitment to service, empathy, and community connection. Enjoy the photos below capturing our students and staff in action!

2. New – January 2026 Schoolwide Calendar

For your family’s convenience, here is a schoolwide calendar of events for the month of January – print it out and throw it on the refrigerator door!  It is possible that events could change and new events could be added.  An up-to-date events calendar can always be accessed on our website.

3. New – Unity Middle School Artists Shine in Winter Art Exhibition!

Under the guidance of Art & Design Teacher, Mr. Moorman, Unity’s middle school art students proudly exhibited their latest artwork at our Winter Art Exhibition. We are grateful to the many families, students, and staff who were able to attend and celebrate our young artists and their creativity, growth, and latest creations.

4. New – Unity High Artists at Work: The Art of the Self-Portrait!

Unity High students recently explored identity and self-expression through self-portrait projects in their art class with Ms. Gjkova. Using careful observation and artistic technique, students created thoughtful and expressive portraits that reflect both skill and individuality. Enjoy the photos below highlighting our young artists in action and their impressive work!

5. New – Unity Celebrates Winter Spirit Week with Gusto!

Unity was buzzing with energy and joy during Winter Spirit Week, as students and staff fully embraced the fun all week long. School spirit was on full display with ugly (and beautiful!) holiday sweaters, wacky pajamas, and more plaid than we could have ever imagined.

Be sure to check out the photos below to catch the festive vibes and creative looks—Winter Spirit Week was one to remember!

6. Updated – Quarter 1 Academic Honors at Unity High

Congratulations to our high school students for their outstanding academic performance in Quarter 1! We are proud to recognize all students who earned Honor Roll, High Honor Roll, and Principal’s List distinctions. Your hard work, focus, and commitment to excellence continue to inspire our entire Unity community.

We were thrilled to celebrate these students and their achievements during a special recognition reception held last week in our gymnasium. We look forward to honoring even more students at the conclusion of Quarter 2!

7. Updated – Unity Athletics Are in Full Winter Mode!

Our winter season is officially off and running! This week, we celebrated our High School Student-Athletes of the Month, recognizing their effort, teamwork, leadership, and character.

8. New – Parent Workshops: A Resource for Unity Families!

Unity families are invited to take advantage of free, online parent workshops offered by Marble Health, shared as a helpful resource by our Director of Social Work, Ms. Del Purgatorio. These workshops are developed by clinician and researcher Annie Graham and are held via Zoom, with live captioning available in 35 languages, including Spanish, Mandarin, French, and Russian, to ensure broad accessibility for our families.

9. Recap – Congrats to Unity’s Students of the Month!

Kudos to our Students of the Month for November!  We celebrate these students for showing exemplary scholarship and citizenship!

10. Recap – Kudos to our P.R.I.D.E. Leaders as of the Month of November!

Our P.R.I.D.E. Core Values of Progress, Respect for All, Integrity, Discovery, and Empathy represent qualities that we covet as a school community.  They also represent qualities that we believe empower our students to lead fulfilling lives and, therefore, qualities that we have a responsibility to actively teach and positively reinforce.

The students listed below are our leaders from the month of October, being recognized by their teachers for demonstrating our Core Values.  On behalf of our school community, we are proud of these students, and look forward to continuing to shout out all of our students when they demonstrate P.R.I.D.E. in our community.
