The Unity Scoop – April 11
Dear Unity Families,
I want to begin by thanking all members of our community who contributed to our New Family Dinner events for newly admitted students for the 2025–26 school year. This includes our school leaders, staff, and faculty, as well as members of our National Junior Honor Society. I also want to extend my gratitude to the prospective families who attended. It was an energizing evening for our community, and we’re thrilled to welcome you into the Unity family in the coming months!
I’d also like to thank the families who came out to support our middle school art exhibition earlier this week. Congratulations to Mr. Berkeley and his talented art students for their impressive showcase of recent works—it was a powerful celebration of student creativity and hard work.
Finally, a heartfelt thank you to our high school families for participating in this week’s spring Student-Led Conferences. Your partnership and engagement are essential to our students’ growth and success, and we’re grateful for your continued support. We are proud of the strong community we are building together—your presence, encouragement, and investment in our school make a meaningful difference.
In this edition of The Unity Scoop, we share some highlights from this past week. We also spotlight our P.R.I.D.E. leaders for the month of March. Finally, we provide some information on key dates and upcoming events.
Have a delightful spring break, and we look forward to reuniting as a school community on April 21st!
In unity,
Josh

Updates as of April 11, 2025:
1. New – Unity’s Middle School Spring Art Exhibition!: A huge thank you to everyone who came out to support our Spring Art Exhibition! Your presence, feedback, and encouragement made the event a truly special experience for our young artists. Special thanks to the Brooklyn N.E.S.T. community for graciously hosting us and creating a warm, welcoming space for our scholars to shine. And congratulations to Mr. Berkeley and his talented student artists!
2. New – Unity Welcomes in their Newest Families!: Thank you to our entire school community for taking part in New Family Dinner events this past week for incoming middle school and high school families! It was a joy to connect, celebrate, and welcome new faces into the fold. We’re already excited for the year ahead and can’t wait to see all that our newest students will bring to Unity in 2025–26!
3. New – Kudos to our P.R.I.D.E. Leaders as of the Month of March!: Our P.R.I.D.E. Core Values of Progress, Respect for All, Integrity, Discovery, and Empathy represent qualities that we covet as a school community. They also represent qualities that we believe empower our students to lead fulfilling lives and, therefore, qualities that we have a responsibility to actively teach and positively reinforce.
The students listed below are our leaders from the month of March, being recognized by their teachers for demonstrating our Core Values. On behalf of our school community, we are proud of these students, and look forward to continuing to shout out all of our students when they demonstrate P.R.I.D.E. in our community.

6. Recap – Unity 8th Graders Tackle Issues of Teen Drug Use by Creating a Student-run Publication, The Perspective!: As a of part of their coursework in Ms. McRae’s health class, Unity’s 8th graders recently created a student-run publication, The Perspective: The Voices of Tomorrow, which explored the issue of teen drug use. Through various team roles—including marketing, news reporting, and editorial writing—students developed essential skills such as advocacy, communication, and decision-making.
