The Unity Scoop – May 2

Dear Unity Families,

I hope the week has been good to you and your loved ones. Congratulations to our middle school students, team, and families on completing their state English Language Arts (ELA) exams last week! This was a major milestone, and we are proud of the focus, effort, and resilience our students showed throughout the process.

Looking ahead, this coming week is another important one.  On Thursday and Friday, our middle school students will take their state math exams. At the same time, our high school students will begin sitting for four Advanced Placement (AP) exams throughout the week.

Please support your child at home as they prepare for these important assessments—make sure they get a good night’s sleepeat a healthy breakfast, receive plenty of encouragement, and, of course, arrive at school on time and in good spirits.

In addition to testing, we’ll be celebrating our amazing colleagues during National Educator Appreciation Week. As you know, our dedicated educators are one of Unity’s greatest strengths. I encourage you to take a moment this week to show appreciation for the teachers and staff who have supported your child this year. Whether it’s a quick call, a text, an email, or a handwritten note—whatever feels right to you—your kind words will mean so much. You can also leave a message of appreciation using the link in the first update below.

In this edition of the Unity Scoop, we’re excited to share the full and impressive list of college acceptances for Unity’s Class of 2025! A huge congratulations to our seniors, their families, and our entire team for reaching this milestone. We look forward to celebrating throughout the spring—starting with College Signing Day on May 16th and much more to come!

Enjoy your weekend!

In unity,

Josh

5. Updated – Unity’s Student-Athletes are in Action this Spring Season!:  Our spring athletic teams are taking full advantage of their opportunities to learn and compete, as great teams do! See the calendar above for the May game schedule.  This week, we highlight our middle school volleyball teams, including team photos and photos of our teams presenting P.R.I.D.E. sportsmanship awards to members of the opposing team.  In addition, we share our middle school kickball team photo.  Finally, we honor our Middle School Student-Athlete of the Month for March – congratulations, Zuri!  Stay tuned for more athletics news in next week’s edition.

Middle School Scholar-Athlete of the Month for March: Agneizska Thompson

Team: Step

Current GPA: 3.3

Quote from Student-Athlete’s Coach: Zuri exemplifies the perfect balance of being both an outstanding student and a dedicated team member. She consistently demonstrates a strong commitment to her academic responsibilities, often using breaks during practice to complete her homework and class assignments. Zuri’s initiative is truly commendable. She not only takes the time to learn choreography beyond what is required but also creates original steps, showcasing her creativity and drive to contribute more to the team. Her leadership qualities are evident, especially considering she is the only 6th grader on the team—an achievement that highlights her maturity and exceptional talent. Zuri is a valued asset to our team, and her positive attitude, work ethic, and dedication make her a standout individual deserving of recognition.”

Quote from Student Athlete: In learning that she had earned Scholar-Athlete of the Month, Zuri offered the following response: “I am excited and proud of myself because I don’t always see myself in this position.”
