Dear Unity Families,

I hope this week has been good to you and your loved ones!

As we head into a long fall weekend, I want to extend a heartfelt thanks—on behalf of our entire faculty and staff—for your continued partnership and active support. The school year is off to a strong and promising start, and so much of our early success is due to our collaboration with you. Let’s stay the course!

A special thank-you to all of the families who participated in our first Family Ambassadors meeting of the year on Tuesday evening! It was wonderful to connect, hear your perspectives, exchange ideas, and discuss ways we can work together to make Unity even stronger. Your voice and involvement are essential to our school’s success, and we look forward to building on the conversation in the months ahead.

  • Celebrating Student Success: Recognizing our first Core Value Leaders of the year and introducing an exciting new initiative to celebrate and reward excellent attendance!

  1. Updated: Unity’s Grades 6–12 Calendar Is Online @unityprep.org/calendar!

Our full grades 6–12 school calendar is now available on the Unity website and will be kept up to date as events, dates, or schedules change. Families should visit the calendar regularly to stay current and confirm upcoming dates and events.

  • Key Dates this Coming Week:
    • 10/12 (Mon.): No School, Indigenous Peoples’ Day
    • 10/14 (Wed.): MS Latino/Hispanic Heritage Month Jeopardy
    • 10/14 (Wed.): Unity Wears Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness
    • 10/13-10/16 (Tues.-Fri.): Interim Assessments in Grades 6-8 (see calendar for exact schedule)
    • 10/6 (Tues.), Unity Family Ambassadors Meeting (on Zoom), 6pm

  1. New: Unity High School Information Session – October 19th!

Calling all Unity 8th-grade families! Join us on Monday, October 19th, at 6:00 PM via Zoom to discover the exciting opportunities awaiting your child at Unity High School!

Learn about our academic programs, college and career preparation, athletics, clubs, and more—including how Unity achieved Brooklyn’s highest college-going rate among charter high schools for the Class of 2025! We’ll also briefly review the high school application process and important deadlines.

All 8th-grade families are strongly encouraged to attend. 7th-grade families are welcome, too!

3. New: Thank You for Joining Our First Family Ambassadors Meeting!

Thank you to all of our families who participated in Tuesday’s Family Ambassadors meeting! It was wonderful to connect, share updates and ideas, answer questions, and discuss ways to make Unity even stronger through our partnership with families.

As a special thank-you, students of all families who participated will receive 15 PRIDE Points!

We look forward to continuing the conversation at our next Family Ambassadors meeting on Tuesday, November 10, at 6:00 PM via Zoom. All Unity families in grades 6–12 are welcome!

 

  1. New: Let’s Celebrate Excellent Attendance in Quarter 1 – Build Strong Habits and Earn a Chance to Score a Pair of New Sneakers!

  1. New – Kudos to our P.R.I.D.E. Leaders as of the Month: Our P.R.I.D.E. Core Values of Progress, Respect for All, Integrity, Discovery, and Empathy represent qualities that we covet as a school community. They also represent qualities that we believe empower our students to lead fulfilling lives and, therefore, qualities that we have a responsibility to actively teach and positively reinforce.

The students listed below are our leaders from the month of September, being recognized by their teachers for demonstrating our Core Values.  On behalf of our school community, we are proud of these students, and look forward to continuing to shout out all of our students when they demonstrate P.R.I.D.E. in our community.

  1. New: Building Community, School Spirit, and Panther Pride This October!

October is filled with exciting initiatives and events that celebrate what makes Unity special! From our schoolwide Anti-Bullying Campaign to Spirit Week at Unity Middle, students are coming together to strengthen friendships, celebrate one another, and build a safe, supportive, and welcoming school community. Along with other activities throughout the month, these experiences reinforce our commitment to joyful learning, kindness, belonging, and Panther pride. We look forward to a terrific month of learning, celebration, and community building!

Unity Middle – Grades 6-8 Unity High – Grades 9-12

7. New: Introducing Unity Majors — A Head Start on College and Careers!

We’re excited to launch Unity Majors, a new program designed to connect students’ interests with their college and career aspirations! Last week, we introduced our 9th- and 10th-grade students to seven exciting pathways that will offer opportunities for specialized coursework, college credit, career credentials, and real-world experiences. Students will explore their interests before selecting a major, putting them on a path to graduate truly college- and career-ready—and with a meaningful advantage! Stay tuned for more information as the program takes shape!

8. New: Our Quarter 1 i-Ready Challenge Is On!

Unity Middle’s Quarter 1 i-Ready Challenge is underway! Students are competing by logging practice learning minutes in i-Ready Math and ELA, with prizes for top performers—including a pizza lunch, dress-down passes, and other fun surprises!

The challenge is designed to build strong learning habits, celebrate student effort, and accelerate academic growth as we wrap up the first quarter. Let’s cheer on our Panthers as they learn, grow, and earn rewards!

 

  1. Updated: Fall Athletics Are in Full Swing — Go Panthers!

Congratulations to all of our student-athletes on their accomplishments this week! We’re proud to see our Panthers competing, working hard, and representing Unity with pride on the field, court, and course. Keep it going, Panthers! Best of luck to all of our teams competing in the week ahead! See the calendar for upcoming games, matches, and meets. 

  1. Updated: College Connections Continue at Unity High!

This week, students met Unity alumni, Alicia Griffith ‘21 to learn more about SUNY Oneonta.  Thanks, Alicia, and congratulations on your career success in higher education! More college visits—both at Unity and on college campuses—are ahead, giving students opportunities to explore programs, campus life, and their options for the future.

  1. Updated: Jupiter Log-ins for All Unity Families Have Been Shared via Email!

Jupiter login information for all families was emailed on Friday, 9/18.  Here is a helpful tutorial for logging on for the first time.  We are excited for families to regularly visit Jupiter to stay up to date on their child’s grades and academic progress and support their learning at home. Families who need help accessing Jupiter may contact help.ms@unityprep.org or help.hs@unityprep.org for support.

  

  1. Recap: 2026-27 School Year Calendar of Key Events and Vacations

Our 2026-27 school-year calendar is available below to help families plan ahead. It includes the first and last days of school, holidays, vacations, and other important dates throughout the year.

Please review the calendar closely and save it for reference. We will communicate any updates to families in advance as needed.

  1. Recap: Free Online Parent Workshops for Unity Families

Unity families are invited to take advantage of free online parent workshops offered by Marble Health and shared as a resource by our Director of Social Work, Ms. Del Purgatorio. Developed by clinician and researcher Annie Graham, the workshops are held via Zoom and include live captioning in 35 languages, including Spanish, Mandarin, French, and Russian, helping make the sessions accessible to families across our community.
